Impression of Mohegan Sun
From the moment of our arrival at Mohegan Sun, we felt we were welcomed. The valet was very warm with his greeting and most amusing. At the check-in counter, everything was in order with our reservation and were given our choice of choosing what floor we wanted to be on. The clerk did notice we had some soda with us, and advised us not to try to place the soda in the refrigerator since it was stocked with soda and liquor, and that removal or movement of any of the items could result in our being charged for these items on our bill. She did say that if we wanted they would send up a portable refrigerator, at no cost. Really a fine gesture on their part.

The room itself was outstanding. The color and style was most pleasing. The windows jutted out to a point, which was unique. There were the typical amenities to the room...coffee maker, iron, ironing board and refrigerator/bar, and of course, a TV. An unusual addition to the room was the fact that there were no door-knob signs for DO NOT DISTURB or MAKE UP ROOM. These requests were made by hitting a switch on the inside of the room which would light an indicator light on the outside of the room. In fact, the room also had a doorbell!!

The hotel itself was absolutely wonderful. Well laid-out. The sculpture work of the waterfalls was breathtaking.

The casinos were just as fascinating as can be. There are two major casinos that we went to...the Casino in the Sky and Earth Casino. Although we didn't play any gaming tables (we were a bit apprehensive), but we did play the slots. The slots seem to pay-off much more than what we had experienced at Atlantic City a number of years ago. We found the staff in the casinos very friendly and willing to help if we had questions about the machines operations.

There was one point that JoAnne and I became separated, and couldn't find each other. I imagine it was about 45 minutes that I had been walking up and down the casino seeing if I could find her. I later found out, JoAnne had been doing the same. I guess we just were walking in the wrong directions from each other. In any event, one staff member must have noticed that I looked as though I was lost, and came up to me asking if I needed assistance. I explained the situation. With a smile and he suggested maybe I should call our room, that maybe JoAnne had gone to the room. He was right. It was nice to know that the staff is aware of what is going on.

Not being gamblers, we were looking for small denomination slots, but the smallest they had were $.25. So we stuck with them for awhile. I inadvertently put money in the wrong machine and was returned $1.00 tokens. Somewhat upset at my stupidity, I reluctantly used them in several slots. To my amazement, I walked away a winner!!

The casinos are well laid out and on the outer rim are many of the eating establishments. We found their eateries to be most pleasant and very enjoyable, as well as, reasonably priced. Should you desire fish, we would suggest the Summer Shack as the place to eat. Great selection, good service and great seafood.

The best lounge is Leffingwells. Beautiful decor and with a panoramic view of a planetarium ceiling that actually changes with stars and heavenly bodies.

We did not get a chance to eat at Michael Jordan's place, but from what we saw it looks very inviting and big. We'll check it out during our next visit.

Unfortunately when we booked there were no scheduled major events or shows planned. So we'll leave that for our next visit.
There are plenty of specialty shops in the lobby and causeway which with wet your fancy, but bring your pocketbook...somewhat pricey. In fact, cigarettes go for $7.50 a pack!!!

The pool at Mohegan Sun is very nice, but not deep at all. I guess they don't want the losing gamblers to attempt anything. (Just kidding.) The depth of the entire pool is only 3' 6''. The pool is supposedly heated, but when we were there it was cold!!! They also have an outside sunning area attached. I spent most of the time in the hot tub!!

Overall, we found Mohegan Sun to be an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness...not a pressured situation. Mohegan Sun also offers babysitting service which adds to the ambiance of it being somewhat family interested. We are so looking forward to our next visit.
